Experienced Street Department Laborer

About this role

• The City of Philippi is seeking a dependable, hardworking individual with prior skilled labor or maintenance experience to join the City's Street Department.
• This position is intended for someone with practical, hands-on experience who can perform maintenance, repairs, and public works duties with limited training.
• Experience in municipal street departments or utility work is beneficial but not required.
• Applicants with backgrounds in equipment operation, road maintenance, general maintenance, landscaping, mechanical work, or other related trades are encouraged to apply.
• Job Responsibilities \* Perform street maintenance, repairs, and general public works projects.
• \* Maintain and assist with repairs to City utility lines and related infrastructure.
• \* Assist with water, sewer, drainage, and other utility maintenance as assigned.
• \* Operate trucks, machinery, power tools, and other equipment as needed.
• \* Perform manual labor, including digging, lifting, moving materials, and preparing work areas.
• \* Assist with maintenance and repairs to streets, sidewalks, curbs, and other public infrastructure.
• \* Perform snow removal, storm cleanup, and other weather-related operations.
• \* Maintain City rights-of-way, facilities, equipment, and other public areas.
• \* Respond to emergency situations and participate in after-hours callouts as needed.
• \* Work on holidays when required to address emergencies, utility issues, weather events, or other essential City operations.
• \* Follow established safety procedures and perform other duties as assigned by the Street Department Supervisor.
• Minimum Qualifications \* Prior experience in skilled labor, maintenance, equipment operation, or a related hands-on trade is required.
• \* Ability to safely use common tools and equipment and perform physical labor.
• \* Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• \* Dependable work history, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• \* Ability to respond to after-hours callouts and work holidays when necessary.
• \* Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred, if applicable to the position.
• Municipal street department or utility experience is a plus but is not required.
• The City is looking for someone who already has practical skills and experience that can be applied to street maintenance, utility line maintenance, and other public works responsibilities.
• Compensation and Benefits Compensation will be based on the applicant's experience and qualifications.
